 Teen Acne Teenage Acne
Halloween Makeup Dangers by Alexa Jones

It's that time of year. Your kids will paint their faces to look like ghosts and goblins and hit the trick-or-treating route. It's time to get pick your costume and get ready to go trick-or-treating, but you can't have a bunny and a cat without a little makeup. There are two kinds of face paint, oil-based and water-based. When you're talking about children's faces, water-based paint works best because it's easy to take off and gentler on the skin."If you're using oil-based paint, the concern with that is if you leave it on too long, it can be irritating. But in addition it can make, especially teenagers, more prone to breakouts because it is oil-based it can clog the pours and make them more prone to acne breakouts," said dermatologist Dr. Ranjani Katta. While acne breakouts are not a big concern for younger children, there are plenty of other ways that makeup can cause irritation."It's not so much that their skin hasn't developed, but we're concerned about is the young child. The infants and toddlers, that they might more easily get it into their eyes or into their mouths, and they're rubbing their face a lot more and don't realize what they're doing," said Katta. After the kids head out into the neighborhood to gather all that candy, it's time to go home and take off the makeup. The water-based allows you to take it off with just soap and water. But if your child begins to itch their face after you take it off, there are ways to take care of the problem."If it's from irritation from it being left on too long, usually you're okay using some over-the-counter hydro-cortisone cream. You wouldn't want to use that for more than a couple of days, and if it still goes on, you might want to see your dermatologist about it," said Katta. It's important to read the directions before applying the makeup because some products made overseas might not contain ingredients approved by the food and drug administration.

Potholes sink road budgets

"They spring up where they spring up. It's kind of like a teenager with acne."

So said Kirk Weston, director of the St. Clair County Road Commission, about the predictability of potholes. The randomness already has started, with several area roads bearing the cratered scars of winter.

Adult sufferers find acne is hard to face

Age lines and acne? This wasn't supposed to happen.

Acne, normally the bane of teenagers, was flaring up on Kim Noble's 50-year-old face, causing the Atlanta businesswoman no small degree of frustration.

"I started when I was a teenager with acne problems, and as I got older, it got worse," she says.

"I was told it was due to stress and hormones. I've tried everything that was out there, from (rubbing) alcohol to injections to Accutane to Proactiv," says Noble, who has been seeing a dermatologist for years but still has flare-ups.

She's not alone. Dr. Jodi Ganz, an Atlanta dermatologist, estimates half her patients are adults with mild to severe acne breakouts.

"There are a ton of people with adult acne. For women, flare-ups usually occur the week before their periods; that's what we call hormonally linked acne.

Stop Chasing High-Tech Cheaters

Opening up The New York Times last week, I stumbled across an article that outraged me. "Colleges Chase as Cheats Shift to Higher Tech" detailed the struggle of some academics against new, high-tech forms of "cheating" that are based in Internet use, iPods, cellphones, and PocketPCs. The tone of the article was one of dismay at the collapse of morality in education. As I watched the article climb the "most e-mailed list" on the Times Web site through the day, my outrage increased.

Police investigate shooting in Algiers

This comment is in regards to the cover article on the crime issues that face New Orleans. While I thought the article was much needed and covered the frustrations over how to deal with crime in our city, it seems to me that the perspective is flawed. How can you solve the crime facing our beloved city, if you dont face up to the issues of poverty and rebuilding? How can you continue to fault the police department, and the mayor and district attorney, if you cant look your own self in the face, where the extremities of wealth sit next to the woes of poverty (white and black)? How can you talk about these issues when youre city cares more about the tourist dollar and fixing up the warehouse district than putting the money into the rest of the city, that still stands silent with abandoned houses and failing hospitals and infrastructure? While I most definitely believe the police are doing a better job, especially in regards to more community involvement and the beats cop walking the streets, they have to do a better job of getting the news to the people, and that includes this newspaper and mostly the television news that sometimes verges on entertainment rather than covering the news that actually matters.

As Windows Server 2008 RTMs, Customers and Partners Adopting with Help ...

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 4, 2008 –Approaching the company's largest enterprise launch in its history, Microsoft reached another important milestone today with the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Server 2008. The response from IT professionals and developers has been strong as the company moves toward the worldwide launch of Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 on February 27.

One indication of the momentum that is building around the latest server operating system is the number of beta and evaluation versions that customers and partners have obtained: more than two million.

IT professionals face increasing pressure from rapidly changing technology, increasing costs and security concerns, and expanding business needs. Windows Server 2008 helps alleviate these pressures by automating daily management tasks, tightening security, improving efficiency and increasing availability.

Joe Cole hopes that history repeats itself

We're still in touch with the leaders, in all the competitions and the lads have taken to him.

"We're improving every day. We're trying to employ the new tactics and style the new manager wants. It's about learning and adapting - we're winning games while we're in transition."

Cole, whose attacking tendencies were sometimes curbed by Mourinho, has been encouraged to take up a wider position under Grant's new system and he says that the intention is for the whole team to play more expansive, flowing football. He predicts that this reformed style will become more pronounced during the concluding months of the season.

"It's probably closer to my own philosophy to playing the game," Cole said. "English players get told a very cautious way of playing - it's inbred in us, taught not to take risks.
