Editorial: ‘Gifted’ funds lost in space
Since 1995 as I have a memorandumm dated that far back, this district never intended to nor will it ever be truthful about funding and services. The memorandum clearly stated that a program for gifted will be set in place in the district. As of yet I see no concentrated effort to do so or do I see any Board member challenging the lack thereof. You cannot follow the money here. Everthing is posted per line item.but where it goes only the staff knows. Now you all know you have been lied to repeatedly and the only thing they have done was created a bigger, bloated bureaucracy by hiring all those gifted coordinators to appease the parents. So now they will tell you there is no money left. More lies. They are trying to force gifted into the defunct I B program or the AP program. If gifted were that simple there would not be a separate funding for them.
Karibu book chain is closing
Karibu Books started off as a kiosk specializing in books for African-Americans, but over the years transformed into something more. It became a place where African-American authors could promote their books when mainstream stores turned them away. Some went on to become best-selling authors. Now, after 15 years, Karibu (ka-REE-boo) is going out of business, leaving behind what some say will be a cultural void. .
December 2006 Archives
So, for your entertainment (and mine), let's make up some New Year's resolutions for the stars. "I'm going to try really, really, really, really hard to be genuinely happy for Ashlee. Even though she thinks she's better than I am, and she's way cuter than me now. And she's probably making more money than me, and Papa Joe likes her better." --Jessica Simpson "I will continue to take over my sister's identity." --Ashlee Simpson "I promise to buy those days of the week underwear y'all and wear them every single day. Pinky swear." --Britney "We're going to adopt at least gazillion more babies this year." --Brangelina "I won't have sex for a whole year... take two." --Paris "We are going to try to be much less creepy." --TomKat "I will not steal illegally obtain any small children this year." --Madonna "Annoying Meredith Grey no more.
Bonds is indicted on five counts
Commissioner Bud Selig withheld judgment, saying, "I take this indictment very seriously and will follow its progress closely." Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, who is investigating drug use in baseball, declined comment. So did Hall of Fame vice president Jeff Idelson. Bonds finished last season with 762 career home runs, seven more than Aaron. A seven-time NL MVP, he also holds the season record with 73 home runs in 2001. He is a free agent after being told late in the season that the Giants didn't want him back next year. Bonds was charged in the indictment with lying when he said he didn't knowingly take steroids given to him by Anderson. Bonds also is charged with lying that Anderson never injected him with steroids. Prosecutors promised Bonds they wouldn't charge him with any drug-related counts if he testified truthfully.
