Starting Gate: Tipping Point?
Hillary Clinton's campaign didn't expect to win any of these contests for clear reasons. First, three of them were caucuses, which Obama's campaign has emphasized or organized for. Second, the one primary was in Louisiana, another southern state with a large chunk of black voters. The Clinton campaign has also begun downplaying their chances in tomorrow's "Potomac Primary," when Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC vote. All appear to be good territory for Obama, containing high numbers of voters who have sided with him throughout this process blacks, high-income and well-educated. Virginia may be a state where Clinton can challenge but recent polls show her far behind heading into the primary. A week later, Hawaii and Wisconsin vote, both good states for Obama. Clinton's camp and some outside observers, see her remaining strength in some of the big states coming up in March and April.
Gphone vs. iPhone: The security debate begins
Gphone vs. iPhone: The security debate begins It wasn't long after Google announced its long-anticipated mobile plans this week that a debate emerged about the prospective security of the project's Linux-based platform. Can the open-source model for the platform, now known as Android, produce secure code? Will phones based on Android, dubbed "Gphones" by many, be more or less secure than Apple's iPhone, which has been developed using proprietary software? What will Android's developers be able to do to stop authors of malicious code from capitalizing on its openness? read more Honey, I shrunk the desktop Every geek needs a large power-hungry supercomputer, right? Wrong. French company Linutop offers a tiny machine - the Linutop - no bigger than a mid-sized paperback novel.
Alternative Candy Bars Fight For Taste Buds
The peanut butter flavor is not well-defined, the crunch is muted and the chocolate is indifferent at best in flavor and very waxy. Grade: C. Hershey's Take 5: 210 calories, 11 grams fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 180 mg sodium, 25 grams carbs Most candy fans will tell you that the salty-sweet contrast is one of their favorite tastes. At first, the Take 5 bar looks like a kitchen chemistry project some of those candy eaters might undertake while on a chocolate-covered pretzel jag. There's a lot going on here: peanut butter, pretzels, caramel and toasted peanuts, all wrapped in chocolate. And it works. All the flavors play well together, but they all manage to retain their identities nicely. This is a really great candy fix, and surprisingly innovative coming from one of the big names in the business.
Acromegaly: My DIY diagnosis
Something strange started happening to me about 10 years ago. My shoe size grew from 9 to 11+, my income dried up and the girlfriend I was going to marry left after we stopped having sex. It wasn't just the sex, or lack of it. I also changed dramatically, both personally and physically. My nose grew bigger, my forehead enlarged and my face and hands became puffy and coarse. But these were gradual changes, as I realised in retrospect. Some friends noticed more acutely. One, who hadn't seen me for four years, looked shocked: "You've re-arranged your face," he blurted. My younger sister was blunter: she said I looked like I'd been in a fight. I went from being dynamic and creative to apathetic and exhausted. My moods became widely variable.
Mel Smith flicks V at smoking ban
I have never smoked and i dont intend to smoke a cigar so why should I suffer his if i go along to the performance? I dont think its absolutely necessary that he has to smoke the cigar during the performance. He can use it as a prop for sure but why light the blasted thing. The law was designed to stop smoking in enclosed places which is fine cos people now smoke outside and walking around the place. Consequently the cigarette butts are piling up. I think its pathetic that they are so addicted to nicotine that smokers have to stand outside in all weathers just to get another fix instead of staying in the pub relaxing. .
Three weeks until it begins anew
It's only January, but two early frontrunners for my top 10 CDs of 2008 were releases this week from two Georgia-based bands: The Whigs' Mission Control and the Drive-By Truckers' Brighter Than Creation's Dark. Also, Atlanta band The Selmanaires have just released another excellent CD, Throw in local bands the Black Lips, Manchester Orchestra and Dead Confederate, and it's a really great time for rock in the Atlanta area. — In sports we demand excellence, rings, etc. Many among us become peeved at anything short of a title or the No. 1 position. And yet in so much of our pop culture, so many Americans are happy to accept, again and again, vapid mediocrity (or worse) and pure hype. Two words: American Idol. — And one more entry in my I-just-don't-get-these-times file: In this week's issue of Sports Illustrated, in the Pop Culture Grid on page 27, one of four athletes surveyed is Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson.
