Visitors spoil RedHawks' party
She and her two girlfriends had set up shop at 2 p.m. Thursday, and roughed it through the night. They scored five seats in the first row in the corner behind the glass next to the goal that Miami would attack to start play. "Oh yeah, it was definitely worth it," Regueyra said. "It got absolutely freezing during the night, but we had plenty of blankets. They (campus officials) opened up Goggin for a little while so we could come in and hang out, but by midnight we were on our own. There was a lot of yelling and cheering, though, and everybody was having a good time. "Besides, it's nice and warm in here (Cady Arena) right now," said Regueyra, right before faceoff. She said she left the tent pitched during Friday's game and that "the guys" would inhabit it overnight and make sure to get tickets for themselves and Regueyra and her girlfriends for tonight.
Valentine's Day Latte
Fill the metal pitcher 3/5 of the way full with milk, or to the base of the pour spout.Place thermometer securely inside of the pitcher. Steam milk to 145ºF. The temperature will raise an additional 5 degrees as it sits. If you prefer hotter drinks, that's fine, but you will scorch it above 155ºF. (be sure your thermometer is calibrated!)The steam wand should be inserted diagonally just below the surface of the milk. This will create froth or foam necessary for a good latte. When frothing make sure you are creating rotational flow in the steam pitcher and once the temperature of the milk is about 100ºF or just warm to the touch, raise the steam pitcher to cease frothing and continue to heat to above temp. Tamp the ground espresso into the portafilter with roughly 40 lbs of pressure and lock it into the group head on the espresso machine.
Dairy Queen workers' hijinks on web shock owner
The owner of a St. John's Dairy Queen franchise reacted with disgust when informed of an internet video that showed his employees goofing off on the premises — in one case mooning through the drive-thru window. A camera phone video posted in December to a Facebook group involving employees of the Topsail Road Dairy Queen shows some of them cavorting in the empty restaurant. A worker at a St. John's Dairy Queen dropped his pants at a drive-thru window, in a phone video posted to a Facebook group. (CBC) In one scene, an employee drops his pants and bares his bottom outside the takeout window. Then, he does the same before the camera. "Oh man, you gotta wipe that now," a co-worker advises him, apparently in vain. The employee continues about his work, without — at least immediately — washing his hands.
Striking Writers Show Support For Tentative Deal
Giving writers a 48-hour window to vote on lifting the strike order would help alleviate concerns that the agreement was being pushed too rapidly by the guild's board. If guild members support lifting the strike order, they could return to work as early as Wednesday. "The feeling in the room was really positive," said screenwriter Mike Galvin, adding that no one at the Los Angeles gathering said the deal "was crummy." Compensation for projects delivered via digital media was the central issue in the 3-month-old walkout, which idled thousands of workers, disrupted the TV season and moviemaking and took the shine off Hollywood's awards season. "I believe it is a good deal. I am going to be recommending this deal to our membership," Michael Winship, president of the Writers Guild of America, East, told reporters before the New York meeting at a Times Square hotel.
Cells, texting give predators secret path to kids
The same cell phones that parents buy as safety devices for their children are the gadgets that pedophiles and predators use to prep kids for sexual encounters, experts and police say. The latest case is out of Pennsylvania. Police say a 26-year-old P.E. teacher admitted to having sex with a 14-year-old student in the school's parking lot. Detectives from the Moon Township Police Department said they found nude pictures of Beth Ann Chester on the teen's cell phone along with text messages. Chester faces 14 charges, including three counts of sexual abuse of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Watch police describe how Chester explained the relationship » Robert Del Greco, Chester's attorney, declined CNN's request for a comment.
Woman in Chains
Jody, my runaway subject, laid it all out for me one day. On the Riverside Ave. side of the building, she pointed out, is where most of the developmentally disabled folks hang out. On the Sprague Ave. side, drug dealers and anyone connected to the local drug culture can find each other. Jody explained that the subculture of the Plaza is like a family-a very dysfunctional family. I documented Jodys life for six months and what she told me rang true for the most part. At different times of the day, the Plaza veins course with a melting pot of bus riders, social outcasts, business professionals, gangster wannabes and teenage single moms with strollers in tow. Guys in ties mix with strange looking creatures, some pierced with enough metal to fill a scrap yard. I guess its all in how you look at it.
