Jordan unfazed by Korea DPR test
Although their fairy tale last-eight finish in England 1966 represented the undoubted high-point of their largely unremarkable football history, Korea DPR remain a mysterious force in Asia that none of their continental rivals dare underestimate. For Jordan, however, who play host to the North Koreans in Amman on 6 February in the sides' opening fixture in the third round of Asian qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, their visitors hold no fears. There is a historical basis for such confidence, with memories still fresh of an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Koreans in an AFC Asian Cup qualifier in 2003, a result that proved crucial in helping the Jordanians progress to their first-ever continental finals, in which they reached the quarter-finals. More important to morale than this fond memory, however, has been the series of impressive recent friendly results racked up by Nelo Vingada's team, whose declared target is to qualify for the final stage of Asian qualify by emerging from a section that also includes Korea Republic and Turkmenistan.
Teachers face mixed messages
This all sounds alot like what the schools in the U.S. were going through, back during the 1960's and 1970's, when the school systems were so severely underfunded. We, collectively, have to make some really tough decisions, which include finally recognizing that we are responsible for our own actions and that we have to teach our children that they will suffer consequences for actions that are not exceptable from a moral or societal standpoint. Parents should NOT rely on the teachers to teach these values, especially when they are hamstrung with policies that say, teach my kid the difference between right and wrong, but don't you dare actually punish him / her, because you might hurt their feelings. Macworld 2008 Prediction: Apple's MacBook Plus Tablet Laptop
It's January, which means time has come for the electronics industry to release all its secrets for the year ahead. That means plenty of announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show beginning Saturday in Las Vegas, and then at Apple's Macworld the week after that. (We'll be live at both with video and analysis, so bookmark here and here now.) Last year, Apple upstaged pretty much every other company in the gadget world with the unveiling of the iPhone, and this year, the rumor mill is hot and heavy with speculation about a tablet for the Mac line. As I do every year at this time, I recently called up the folks at Apple and asked them what to expect from Steve Jobs when he takes the stage for his keynote on Jan. 15. And as they do every year, the folks at Apple told me nothing. So if they won't tell me what they're working on, I'll tell them what I want for the new year.
Stanford men look to tighten grip on second place
PULLMAN, Wash. - In the highly competitive Pacific-10 Conference, story lines can change in a hurry. Take today's clash between No. 14 Stanford and No. 9 Washington State. Two days ago, this was supposed to be a titanic matchup between the conference's second-place teams. Now, after Cal's upset of the Cougars and the Cardinal's throttling of Washington, the game has taken on a slightly different plot: For Stanford (17-3, 6-2 Pac-10), it's an opportunity to stay on UCLA's heels and put some distance between itself and the Cougars. For Washington State (17-3, 5-3), it's a chance to restore order on its home court, where Thursday's loss was its first this season. One statistic that doesn't bode well for the Cardinal: Washington State is 10-0 after losses under second-year coach Tony Bennett.
Apple - it's about iMacs not iPhones
I also find the mature OS X (10.4 Tiger version) to be excellent, as I'm sure Leopard (10.5) will prove to be when it's updated in the next few weeks. However, I'll be considering a PC desktop as my next computer purchase. Apple make great computers & have the best, most intuitive OS (also virus-free) available today, but their consumer desktop models are relatively niche. If you want an upgradeable desktop Mac, Apple offers nothing but the Mac Pro at over £2,000 (with decent monitor). I think that the limited choice of Mac hardware is a significant obstacle to many more people switching over from PC. .
