Suddenly finding himself an exile in his own country, he is forced to create an ersatz family from the religiously diverse and colorful population of his new neighborhood. Mauro befriends tomboyish, street smart Hanna (Daniela Piepszyk) and develops a crush on Irene (Liliana Castro,) a pretty waitress in a local bar where everyone, including Mauro, an ardent soccer fan, gathers to watch iconic star Pel in the 1970 World Cup championship which Mauro hopes to watch with his parents if they return to Brazil in time.

Beautiful game?
Indian crowds shout overtly racist chants at an Aussie player... an Indian batsman refuses to walk when given out in the first Test... an Indian player calls an Australian player with dark skin a monkey... But no... the Aussies are the bad guys for playing to the umpire (as every other team does in every game)... shame on them. It's funny that the Indian manager says "Monkey is not a racist term in our country... ummmmm.... but Singh didn't use the word monkey anyway...." He either said it or he didn't. I have no doubt he said it because otherwse there there wouldn't be all this justification and excuse making from the Indians about the word used. They'd just be stating that he didn't say it. Same old same old from the sub-continent...
Why the future doesn't need us.
First let us postulate that the computer scientists succeed in developing intelligent machines that can do all things better than human beings can do them. In that case presumably all work will be done by vast, highly organized systems of machines and no human effort will be necessary. Either of two cases might occur. The machines might be permitted to make all of their own decisions without human oversight, or else human control over the machines might be retained. If the machines are permitted to make all their own decisions, we can't make any conjectures as to the results, because it is impossible to guess how such machines might behave. We only point out that the fate of the human race would be at the mercy of the machines. It might be argued that the human race would never be foolish enough to hand over all the power to the machines.
City worker deflects suspension over 10-minute run to restroom
Admit it or not, we've all been in Richard Dessureau's shoes. "When you gotta go, you gotta go," Dessureau, a Denver city employee, told a hearing officer after he was suspended from work for five days for stopping at a Target store to use the restroom without his supervisor's permission. Dessureau, a semitractor-trailer operator who stopped for less than 10 minutes "to handle a personal emergency caused by the sudden onset of diarrhea," appealed the suspension and won, according to city documents. Dessureau, who works in the field, could not be reached for comment. A message left at the home of a Richard Dessureau was not returned. On July 16, Dessureau left the city's Roslyn asphalt plant in a semi carrying "a full load of waste" to the landfill. "Just before he was to make a left turn onto 49th Street, he felt an urgent need to use the restroom," city documents state.

Ministry does not accept cheating
Update: 12:53PM THE Ministry for Education has a zero tolerance policy to cheating in exams and it is investigating the case of a teacher and an exam supervisor allegedly leaking a Chemistry answer paper during the Fiji School Leaving Exam last year. In a statement issued on Friday the Ministry stated that in relation to the allegation raised against the teacher, the case is under investigation and the officer concerned will be notified in due time of the decision. Given that the academic year has just started, the Ministry would like to remind teachers and students that the Ministry has a policy of zero-tolerance for cheaters, the ministry stated. All educational provision in Fiji is based upon a core of intrinsic and enduring values, some of which are, honesty, fairness and respect for truth and justice.
