LAST night after her uncontested "victory" in Florida, Hillary Clinton was introduced by... Alcee Hastings, removed from by the Senate in 1998 after impeachment from* in the House, under a heavy cloud of suspicion of bribery when he was a federal judge. (A bit of the colourful background here.) Bill Clinton pardoned Mr Hastings' alleged co-conspirator on his last day in office. Doesn't Ms Clinton have any slightly less dodgy-looking Floridian backers? Or if slightly suspect they must be, ones whose former associates had not been pardoned from federal prison by her husband? *[Correction: Mr Metcalph is correct. Over the long term, these stem cells could become the foundation for therapies for a range of diseases, scientists say. This week's announcement suggests it will be possible for scientists to study these cells without the ethical and political difficulties of harvesting them from unused human embryos. For the emerging field of stem-cell research, "this is enormous," says Jesse Reynolds, a policy analyst at the liberal Center for Genetics and Society, based in Oakland, Calif. "I can't think of another development "that has been this big," .
Actives Speak Louder Than Words
Is beauty ageless? Is there a timeline for attractiveness? As populations in the U.S., Western Europe and Japan continue to grow older, consumers, marketers and even pop icons are rethinking the definition of old. Just last month, newly-minted octogenerian Hugh Hefner referred to 80 as the new 40. Hef may be pushing the envelope a bit, but there’s no doubt that the beauty industry is taking a new interest in reducing the appearance of aging. Just last month, L’Oréal signed Diane Keaton to represent its Age Perfect Pro-Calcium Skin care line which debuts in July. It’s the first L’Oréal Paris brand to target women ages 60 and older in the U.S. L’Oréal already targets women in their 50s with its Age Perfect line and Revitalift is for women in their 40s.
Tigers, Granderson agree to 5-year, $30.25M deal
The Detroit Tigers could have kept Curtis Granderson around for a while, retaining his talents with one-year deals until he became eligible for free agency after the 2011 season. The Tigers, though, don't just wait around to make moves these days. Granderson and baseball's busiest team agreed Monday to a $30.25 million, five-year contract that includes a club option for 2013 that could make the deal worth up to $43.25 million. .
Casio Exilim EX-V7 digital camera
It turned out to be a challenge to get very worked up one way or the other about Casio's Exilim EX-V7 , a camera that balances out to be an almost perfectly average point-and-shoot. On the plus side, the 7x zoom lens covers a lot of territory, and the camera's battery life of almost 1,195 shots per charge is exceptional for its class. (The Nikon Coolpix S50c [ ] holds the lowest score, with 347 shots per charge; Samsung's NV11 [ ] performed best, achieving 1,233.) Throw in a few points, too, for a full range of manual exposure controls, a rarity in this category. On the mildly annoying side, there's the zoom slider control, which is awkwardly placed adjacent and vertical to the LCD screen. Also, image stabilization proved too ineffective in most situations. And the plastic docking cradle, required to recharge the battery, will take up more room in a suitcase than most folks would care to sacrifice.
