He came from humble beginnings, his father was a day laborer and mother, who couldn't read or write English, worked at a textile mill. I bring this up because of his many accomplishments, he is also part owner of the Boston Red Sox. This is by no means a conflict of interest here. I don't think a man who's accomplished this much in his life would tarnish his reputation with a biased report. It will be interesting to see if this is the beginning of the end of the steroid era. Will naming names just embarass few players, then everyone moves on? I don't think so. The report supposedly is most critical of both the Commissioner and the MLBPA for enabling a drug culture that was pervasive throughout the sport. Mitchell calls for independent drug testing and counselling for players on the dangers of performance enhancing drugs.
Malibu Fires And Jennifer Aniston’s Arctic Pain
The Bangladesh floods and the Darfur massacres would lead the news converge if only Kerry Katona could be persuaded to dispense own-brand ketchup to the dispossessed and Lenny Henry retrace his roots to the Sudan. Accordingly, there is leading news from Malibu where fires are occurring. In “Red Hot Flea hit by blaze", the Sun tells us that Flea, member of the Red hot Chilli Peppers band, has had his home “burnt to a crisp". “Stars flee Malibu fires," announces the Express. Minnie Driver, Sting, Pierce Brosnan, Britney Spears, Courtney Cox and Bill Murray have abandoned their properties. Cynics may argue that having a property in Malibu guarantees column inches, it being the resort for fires. Indeed, if Jennifer Aniston can only be persuaded to buy a holiday home on the edge of the Arctic ice shelf, she will surely become the most–talked about celebrity on the planet… Posted: 26th, November 2007 | In: Celebrities, Tabloids.
the has-been
The elephant's new home is a 2,700-acre sanctuary in Tennessee that for all we know may be Fred Thompson's campaign headquarters. To most Republicans these days, the place must sound like heaven. It has a Kaus-like fence to keep out unwanted immigrants. The only people allowed to visit are big donors. According to a Humane Society official, "The Elephant Sanctuary represents the future of enlightened captive elephant management"—a concept very much on the minds of every Republican presidential candidate. The Republican field could learn a great deal from the Tennessee program, especially its "non-invasive research on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder." If only the sanctuary had done some nontraumatic research on post-invasion stress disorder. The sanctuary even has its own YouTube—the Elecam.
GB Special Olympics squad claims nine medals
Having already secured a Men's Doubles gold medal on Tuesday, Leicestershire's Thomas Styles won another gold in his Men's Singles event on Wednesday after defeating Salvatore Famao of Germany 6-1 in his final. Earlier in the week Styles had beaten Youssef Gadalla of Egypt by the same score to reach the final. Scotland's Stephen McEwan, already a Men's Doubles bronze medallist, also clinched a Men's Singles gold medal on Wednesday after defeating Australia's Peter Kerin 6-2. The third gold medal of the day went to Leicestershire's Zara Jurenko. Jurenko added to Tuesday's Women's Doubles silver medal when defeating Karla Galan of El Salvador 6-2 to top the podium in her Women's Singles Division. Having also played off for a gold medal Wales' Lucy Pethig had to settle for a silver after her final Women's Singles match as she slipped to a 0-6 defeat to Yalan Xue of China.
Kenya Trip Expands Outlook on Africa
Cloudless blue skies, 75-degree weather with no humidity and summer breezes, and hundreds of varieties of flowering bushes and trees are the backdrop for Kenya, a nation in crisis. Kenya is a long way from the United States, far enough away to be out of sight and out of mind despite post-election violence. That is the impression one gets from the news media and its rapidly waning coverage. Nothing could be further from reality. Experience teaches. It is simple as that. When my older son, Joel, said his fiancée, Dawn Kuguru, wanted to be married in her native Kenya, it was overwhelming to me. All I could think was, "You've got to be kidding!" That was almost a year ago, and now my family and I have returned from what we consider a life-enriching experience.
In the Pink for Valentine's Day
According to the information on the back of my shampoo bottle, 15 percent of women send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day. I find that hard to believe. As far as I know, none of my friends have ever done that, and I think I would have run across at least one person sending themselves flowers by now, if almost one out of every seven women did. This is not to say that I can't understand why some women would want to send themselves flowers. Valentine's Day can magnify insecurities about being loved and feeling attractive. Fortunately, there are a few quick fixes that can still make a difference in the appearance of your skin in time for the big day. A few simple steps can improve the appearance of your skin even at the last minute. Avoid overdrying with soap or toners. Instead, use a gentle, hydrating cleanser, such as Cerave.
