Clinton has what it takes to fix this mess

It's insane to give them tax rebates (or to keep them in place) and to not regulate such an important oligopoly is a terrible idea. Of course they are regulated, but not enough. Also, they are one of the prime beneficiaries of stability in the Middle East and it's high time that they paid for the security provided by the US Navy and other military forces.

The taxes you speak of are paid by the consumer, not the oil company. These taxes are used to pay for road maintenance and is one of the more fair taxes in the books (being a direct tax after all). The more you use the road, the more you pay. Pretty simple concept.

When unrest increases in OPEC nations the price of oil goes up and the oil companies profit more. The US sends in forces to reduce the tension and at great cost to Americans the tension usually reduces and oil prices drop so their profit goes down.

Early childhood education: Avoiding expulsions

Trinity Day School in Tulsa praises the work of a little-known Oklahoma program for improving the behavior of children in its classrooms and strengthening the school's curriculum.

The Child Care Consultation program fits a recommendation made by a national panel last week as a way to reduce expulsions in early childhood programs.

Allison Geary, special projects coordinator for the nationally accredited Trinity Day School, said the school has used the consultants at least seven times in the last six months.

"It benefits our school as a whole," Geary said. "Parents can have more confi dence that we are not only relying on our own instincts and knowledge, which are good, but also on the body of scholarly research to follow best practices."

The program's goal is to keep children enrolled in centers when they might be in danger of being asked to leave.

Michelle Obama, Chelsea Clinton visit same Midlands church

Michelle Obama and Chelsea Clinton.

One was on one side of the church, one on the other. And the congregation took note.

"I don't know. It was kinda awkward," said Evette Brown.

"Well to me I think it shows divide but I think once this is over on Saturday, I think our country will be united because we are all going to come together and rally behind whoever gets the nomination," said Sarah Brown.

Pastor Darrell Jackson, who is a senior consultant for the Clinton campaign in South Carolina, says the seating arrangements were no accident.

"It is our custom that when campaigns come that we sit one on one side, and one on the other," said Jackson.

Neither Mrs. Obama nor Miss Clinton spoke at the pulpit, but after the service they did speak to churchgoers.

Khodorkovsky ends hunger strike

I hope (Alexanian's transfer shows) there are fewer bureaucratic thugs ready to let a man die while trying to guess the wishes of their bosses than there are honest and conscientious people," Khodorkovsky said.

Khodorkovsky, who is serving a prison term near the Chinese border, says he earned the ire of the Kremlin by challenging President Vladimir Putin and refusing to allow corrupt officials to carve up his company.

Alexanian has said he is being used as a pawn to put further pressure on Khodorkovsky, who could face another trial this year on new charges of money laundering and embezzlement.

Alexanian has a brother who works as a translator in the Reuters Moscow office.
